The Polar Bear was listed as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act on May 15th of this year by the Interior Department. The article, Polar bear is listed as threatened species , by Kenneth R. Weiss in the Los Angeles Times from May 15, 2008 states that the threatened status means that the Polar Bear is likely to become endangered in the near future. Five industry groups have sued the Interior Department for listing the Polar Bear as a threatened species saying it unfairly targets businesses in Alaska for global warming. You can read more about this lawsuit in an article on MSNBC, Industry groups file lawsuitover polar bear rule.
